The Vampire Diaries
Alaric stops by to be awesome. Davina visits from the other side to tell us the Hollow’s origin story and to be just a little bit vindictive, not that I blame her. Elijah has a very bad day….
Episode grade: 9Read More
Klaus and Marcel are having a mean case of daddy issues, egged on by the Hollow’s hallucinatory taunts. Freya and Keelin are suddenly making googly-eyes at each other, and despite the fine performances, I don’t buy it.
Episode grade: 8
The Vampire Diaries comes to an end after eight amazing years. Because Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec care about their fans, it’s a beautiful, rewarding finale. Episode grade: 10. (Actually, can I give this one an 11?)
In the penultimate episode of #TVD, it’s the wedding that wasn’t really meant to be. And the specter of Katherine looms over the town, but it’s Matt’s crappy mom who will bring the house down. Episode grade: 10.
This week continues the glorious journey to the series finale. Goodbye villain of the year, welcome back villain of the century. Best of all, the show’s creators clearly understand what a gift Chris Wood is, so they let us enjoy one more beautiful episode of Kai Parker’s charismatic villainy. TVD, I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave.Read More
In the midst of a somber story confronting Stefan’s many sins and Bonnie’s desperate grief, Kai’s return adds much-needed levity, thanks to Chris Wood’s natural gift for comedy.
Kai is back! Chris Wood’s listing in the opening credits is enough to get me excited this week, even through the missing-Enzo fog. He’s not the only returning cast member, as we wind down to the end of this show. The recently deceased Sirens are here in flashbacks, and Bonnie’s mom blows through town to make tough decisions in her daughter’s best interest.Read More
Welcome to the epic bummer.Read More
It can’t be denied, the precipitating plot point this week is dumb. But you’ll forgive and forget within minutes, as we work through longtime issues, fondly remember friends, and gleefully dispatch fiends.Read More
The Salvatore Brothers’ Mystical Murder Tour returns to Mystic Falls in time for the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. Soulless Stefan is calculatedly cruel, defiant Damon is rebelliously relentless, and constant Caroline is sorrowfully steadfast.Read More
Welcome back for the second half of TVD’s final season. The good news is, Damon’s back to being the less evil component in the Salvatore brothers’ murder-death-kill world tour. The bad news is, we’re not shut of the Sirens just yet. More bad news: Bonnie, Enzo, and Alaric aren’t in this episode…but at least that means they’re safe, and in the case of Bonnie and Enzo, even happy.Read More
The tour of Damon being a jerk this year continues, and the weird morality of TVD makes another bizarre statement about how mass murder is maybe not so terrible, as long as it’s not on a holiday…what?!?Read More
Well, this week was a whole lot of holy crap!, somewhat undercut by the preview for next week, but what can you do…in the Internet age, there’s no such thing as a surprise anymore.Read More
Damon continues on his quest to make his life so crappy that he won't terribly mind going to hell. Or something. Bonnie and Enzo are back at the cabin to reconnect...Enzo to his humanity, that is. Tyler gets two funerals, because Damon has zero respect for this solemn occasion. And the Sirens are totally in charge this week, running circles around our heroes.Read More
Hello to an old friend...but goodbye to another. WTF, TVD?Read More
This week, Bonnie and Caroline try to have a moment of normalcy, which goes about like you’d expect. Stefan proves once again that his morality fails objective tests. Alaric saves the day, but it’s a bittersweet triumph.Read More
Enzo's Odyssey continues, as he faces down a mythic evil. Bonnie is his Penelope, left behind and losing hope. Caroline is the best friend on TV.Read More
And so it begins, the final season of The Vampire Diaries. Let's raise a glass, shed a tear, and discuss the sad predicament of our friends Damon and Enzo.Read More
