With another episode in on Empire, the game just continues to get harder and harder... and this episode was anything but a snooze fest. So let's get to it...
The episode opened with Cookie getting a delivery... gold street signs... okay... and it progresses to a gun wrapped in gold with gold bullets, finally ending with a marble lion. That's right... a lion. Bet you can guess who it's all from... so does Cookie. She tells the delivery crew to take it all back but Portia wants the espresso machine. Cookie wants it all gone...
After that, we were brought to Lucious' mansion where Anika is interviewing for a nanny for Bella under the watchful eye of Leah. Lucious forces them all to leave. He wants to know why Anika had strangers in his house and she tells him that she needs help with Bella. Leah says that she can care for Bella but Anika refuses and Lucious informs her that her only job is to be a mother, and to take care of a crying Bella.
Next, we saw Jamal in a radio booth with City Councilman Angelo Dubois. Councilman Dubois referred to Jamal as a victim of P.T.S.D but Jamal doesn't want him to diagnose him considering he isn't a doctor. Then he points out that Freda Gatz is the real victim. He and Jamal banter back and forth for a while before the councilman brings up his program "WOKE." He persuaded Jamal into attending.
When Jamal meets up with Cookie, she wants to know what all that was about. He tells her that he was curious about what the program was but she doesn't want him attending. Angelo suddenly appears and asks if Cookie will be attending. After she declines, he shows them both a Snapchat video of the kids in the program excited about Empire and Jamal coming to meet them. But Cookie isn't buying it. When her and Jamal walk away, he asked why she was so rude. He said, "He was so nice." Cookie said "I don't trust nice people, stupid."
Next scene we see Lucious in a meeting with Hakeem, Nessa (Shine's sister) and Shine. Lucious tells them that no one is talking about Jamal. They're talking about the rare talent that is Nessa. Shine mentions that if they would've talked before, Lucious and Shine would have made millions. Hakeem pipes up mentioning that he is working on a project with Nessa. Then Lucious turns to Shine and says "We have more business to take care of,"
Cookie returns all of the gifts that Lucious so generously gave her. He accepts that but then he asked what she really wants. She tells him for him (Lucious) to respect her boundaries and that the only thing that should be going on between them is the business and the boys. Nothing more... but, since Cookie wants strictly business to be discussed between them, Lucious wants to talk about Jamal's "Fainting Justin Bieber Moment". She tells Lucious that Tiana is about to drop an album and a few other artists are working on things as well. Lucious says "That's why I love you... in a strickly business way." She rolls her eyes then says "I see you kept the gun," she smirks and walks out.
When we get back with Jamal, he was giving the kids of 'WOKE' a tour of Empire. Councilman Dubois right behind. They run into Lucious who offered to host their Summon but Angelo declines. To sweeten the deal, he offers to under write the whole event. The kids right away say yes and Lucious sweetens it even more by saying he'll live stream the event on Empire Extreme. Jamal wants to know what Lucious is up to but Lucious says to tell Cookie "The music is being handled."
Hakeem and Nessa were in the booth working on their project. They go back and forth, he lays a few bars then she does the same. They go back and forth exchanging lyrics before they lay out the final track. Wow did it sound good.
While Cookie and Becky were discussing agendas, Lucious appeared. He wanted to give her a track to smooth things over with Jamal and to inspire him but he wanted her to give it to him because he knew Jamal wouldn't take it from him. Cookie agrees to give it to Jamal but Lucious wants to talk. Cookie, doesn't. She dodges his blows left and right for conversation and finally just leaves.
We saw Andre for the first time. Once again, he was struggling with the hallucinations of Rhonda. But this time, it was just her voice. When Jamal appears, he asked Andre who he was talking to. Andre admits it's Rhonda. Jamal asked if she was there but he says no, then he admits that he's having problems with his meds. Jamal offers to help but Andre declines. Jamal assures him its okay, that he'll keep a chart for Andre with his own chart. Andre is emotional and Jamal gives him a needed brotherly hug.
Cookie shows up at Leviticus where they are setting up the "Woke" Summon. She isn't happy so she calls Lucious over and asks what he's doing. He thought that Jamal had told her but he hadn't then she walks over to Councilman Dubois and gives him a piece of her mind. When it's over, Jamal looks at Lucious and says, "Well, damn, the only other person I've ever seen her go off on like that is... you."
Next scene, Cookie was woken up from a surprise from Lucious... Biz Markie singing the song Lucious rapped the first time they met. After the performance, Lucious sits her down and tells her that when she met him, it wasn't the first time he'd seen her, in fact he knew she had a boyfriend (at the time) but he knew that she would be his some day. Then, he tells her that from that moment on, he knew music was his destiny, she was his destiny...
Cookie meets up with Andre to see how he is coping. He wants to know how she is still alive through all of the loss that she has experienced. Cookie tells him that he will, too. She promised that no matter what, she would always have him. But he had to fight, he couldn't give up.
At the "Woke" Summon, Young Zaya raps for the crowd about today's problems with racism, gun violence, and police disputes. When the song is over, Councilman Dubois gets on stage and gives a speech, giving thanks to Cookie for opening his eyes and to Jamal for pointing out the difference between a victim and a survivor. Then, Lucious comes up. He wants Jamal to sing a song but Jamal freezes and runs down the hall away from the crowd. Cookie runs after him to help while Lucious follows to tell him he needs to face his problems head on. Jamal finally tells them "This keeps happening. This keeps happening ma. I can't do it anymore."
Cookie and Lucious are talking respectfully calm for once when Angelo appears. He wants to thank Cookie and Lucious for holding the event then he points out how, even though they are not together, they are a beautiful example of "Black Love" then Cookie points out that she and Lucious aren't together and they weasel him out of the conversation. When Angelo goes to give him a handshake and calls him Lucious, he shuns him and tells him that it's Mr. Lyon to him.
After the Summon, Jamal meets up with Andre and Hakeem back at his place. They talk about how messed up the Lyon boys are. Andre tells Jamal that he will be back on the stage when he's ready. Then he tells Hakeem that he's happy he's the first of the Lyon sons to have a kid. Then Hakeem asked how he was doing. He told them. "I gotta get her out of my head. Tomorrow I'll go and collect the rest of my things."
Next we saw Tariq spying on Lucious and Anika. She puts the baby to bed and goes to put the monitor away when statistic appears. That makes her stop. She goes to put it away again and the static reaction happens again. It wakes Lucious. They both look as she wands over the teady bear. Lucious gets up and hugs Anika. He says "Bella needs some thing more befitting of a princess." Then pulls the eyes out, revealing cameras are in fact in the eyes.
In the final scene, we saw Andre gathering the rest of his things from the apartment he and Rhonda once shared. Suddenly, a cop car comes tearing in. He wants to know what it's about but they want to know why he's there. He tells them that he's moving his stuff out but they inform him the neighborhood has been high on theft recently. They then begin to harass Andre before they grab him, beat on him, throw him to the ground, put a gun in his face and finally puts him under arrest...
