Jane the Virgin MidSeason Spoilers

Jane and Mr. Sweetface are in for a roller-coaster ride come January 23rd.

Jane and Mr. Sweetface are in for a roller-coaster ride come January 23rd.

Jane the Virgin comes back Monday, January 23 and everybody’s poised to finish the second half of the season with some very promising storylines.  Xiomara’s taken up with her newly-divorced ex, Bruce, and shattered poor Rogelio’s heart.  Ro has taken his need for love and focused it on conceiving a child with his matchmaker, Darci Factor. Alba has just started her dream job in the Marbella gift shop.  Petra’s got a ton of revenge to get and Scott and Anezka will no doubt be doing her bidding.

Petra is not playing.

Petra is not playing.

Rafael just found out he’s not a Solano. And Jane has no idea what havoc her two-faced, phony-accent-having, baby-daddy-seducing, Louis-Vuitton-bag-full-of-money-toting cousin, Catalina, will unleash.

Catalina ain't nothing but trouble.

Rafael’s storyline seems like it might be a big one because he’s completely lost his identity and can start over again.  Maybe he’ll give the hotel to the only real Solano left, Luisa, or maybe Petra will snatch the Marbella away once she finds out about Raf’s lineage.  I hope Baby Mateo’s $40 million trust fund is safe.

Raf is confused and confounded.

Rogelio was supposed to birth another baby this season— the telenovela he was supposed to be developing for American audiences.  I bet Xo’s hush-honey, Bruce, who’s a lawyer, will probably have something to do with both Rogelio’s babies. Maybe Ro’ll get into a custody battle with Darci or get sued over his telenovela.  Ro’ll probably come up with Jane the Surgeon or La Reina Del Purr, a telenovela about a drug dealing cat in the south of Spain. I tickle myself.

Jaime Camil...all kinds of fine.

Hmm…who of the main cast members haven’t I mentioned yet? No, no, not Sin Rostro…hmmm…who?

Ok, we are out of the spoiler-free zone, and here is the dip: MICHAEL IS GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT?!

WHAT?!

Maybe.  Ivonne Coll, the actress who plays Abuela, did an interview with the Puerto Rican newspaper, El Nueva Dia. In the article, Ivonne says that ONE OF JTV’S MAIN CHARCTERS WILL DIE.  There is also video of the interview where she explains more. Now all I have is my 56% Duolingo fluency in Spanish, so I have to trust the words I can make out and what I’ve read around the internet. Coll says she asked if Abuela was going to be killed off and was told no because Jane’s family structure was too important to the show. So it’s not Xo or Abuela. Then Coll says the death of a main character will play out in the first three episodes coming up, then the show will SKIP AHEAD FOUR YEARS (cuatro años adelante!)! Then, Coll says the word viuda (widow) and covers her mouth like “oops, sorry.”  That really sounds like Michael (Brett Dier) is gonna die.  Check out the interview for yourself at the link below and a big hat tip to the Jane the Virgin fan group on Facebook for always knowing the latest news about JTV.

Damn, Gina.

Damn, Gina.

I’m devastated. You know I’m #TeamMichael.  Ever since he looked at Abuela and then looked at Jane and said “Yo soy Michael…” in those wedding vows, I have loved the love he has for our Jane.  He’s her soul mate; he’s the man who was willing to wait for her. He rescued Baby Mateo. He kept Abuela from being deported. He gave Ro and Xo a police escort so they could get to the hospital in time for Jane to give birth. And like Jane told him on the night before their wedding, Michael made Jane feel safe and like she could stop worrying about everyone else because she knew he was always watching over her.  Guess he’ll be doing that from heaven three eppys from now.

Memories...like the corner of my mind....

Memories...like the corner of my mind....

And the fact that the show is jumping ahead four years suggests Jane won’t be getting back together with Rafael. If she were, they’d show us the two of them falling in love while Jane got over her grief.

Another one of my favorite shows took a big leap forward between seasons, Galerias Velvet on Netflix. It was okay, but it was weird, too, because suddenly people were in new jobs and marriages had ended and they didn’t really explain why. So I wonder what four years hence looks like on JTV? Is Rogelio a huge Hollywood star (yes, please!) and does he have a four year old? Is Mateo in kindergarten (oh, how I will miss Mr. Sweetface!) ? How will widowhood change Jane? Does she have a string of tempestuous affairs, get a tattoo and a buzz cut, and wild out?  She could, because remember, last episode she admitted she was angry at God for letting Michael get shot. If Michael dies, she might just lose her mind for a couple years. Or at least become a different, maybe deeper Jane. Maybe the book she publishes is about her love story with Michael.

We’ll see.  Let me know what you think in the comments.

Happy New Year.,
