Episode Rating Scale: (7) Enjoyable
Season (5) Premiere of The Have and the Have Nots wasn't what I expected. I expected the season to start with Veronica and Melissa's car accident. Unfortunately, this entire episode didn't show Veronica and Melissa until the last 10 minutes of the episode. Wow! I was a little disappointed by that. Let's recap!!
The season opener with Jeffrey in jail. Officer Justin is yelling Harrington. You can tell Jeffrey isn't a jailbird. He is wondering why Justin is acting like he doesn't know him. Finally, Jeffrey catches on. Justin handcuffs him and takes him to a private room. He tries to kiss Jeffrey, but Jeffrey pushes him away. Justin did turn cameras off. He hasn't been home to deal with his wife. He calls Jeffrey his man. Justin is just in this world and doing what he wants to do. Jeffrey apologizes for what his mom did to him and his wife. Justin tells Jeffrey he handled that. Being that they are in a precinct, Justin doesn't say to Jeffrey precisely what he did to Veronica. The real question is... how will Jeffrey feel about what he did? No matter how crazy and deranged Veronica is; she is still his mother. Before taking Jeffrey back to his cell, Justin and Jeffrey share some intimacy.
Hanna, Benny and Katherine arrived back at the house. Katherine gives Hanna some encouraging words to deal with her lost. Katherine asked Hanna to come back to work for her. Hanna refused do to all the drama between the two families. However, Hanna needs money. Her and Katherine are friends but Hanna wants none of Katherine's money. I understand Hanna's pride but she has absolutely nothing right now.
Mitch arrives to check on Hanna and Mitch. Katherine receives a call about Jim. She has cut off Jim's credit cards. He is trying to get a hotel room at her hotel with no money. Katherine is so fed up with Jim. After taking her phone call, Katherine head out. Before she leaves, Hanna agrees to come show her new maid how she like things done. In the kitchen, Benny shows Mitch a new tow truck for sale. Unfortunately, Benny has lost everything. He has no money. Benny asked Mitch to talk to his family about loaning him the money. Mitch tries to talk him out of this idea. He makes it clear what his family will do if he doesn't pay the money back. He also makes it clear, he won't be able to help him. Mitch gives Benny a clear picture of how his family works. Benny still asked Mitch to make the call to his family. As they head out, Benny tells Mitch he wants to stop and see Candace. Benny is still in the blind about Mitch and Candace. When will he find out they had a fling at one point of time? He must doesn't know War is dead also. Mitch seemed shocked to hear Benny say he knew where Candace was staying? All secrets isn't out yet, I see.
Candace has taken another approach to getting money. She is bringing Johns to her room and just making their money. Whoever this powerful dude was, he didn't like being rob and no sex. Only has the John was leaving, Benny showed up. Benny loves Candace. He always tries to see the best in Candace. Candace is so angry with the world. Benny tries to support his sister. He tries to talk common sense into Candace. No matter what Benny said, Candace doesn't want to hear it. She vows to get everyone that hurt her. She even named a few. Hanna, Jim, and David. Benny tries, but at some point, he has to let Candace go. Candace is the only person that can save Candace. If he doesn't, Candace will cause him more heartache and pain. I mean she is the reason her son was killed. She can't even take ownership of that. Let her go, Benny.
Katherine arrives at the hotel. Jim is harassing the clerk. He demands to see the manager. Broderick arrives with a smile on his face. Mind you, Broderick is the phone call Katherine got early. Jim tells Katherine his cards declined and this isn't fun. Katherine makes it clear her lawyer advised her to keep their money separate. It looks like Jim has lost his meal ticket. Katherine is done with Jim. Jim uses Jennifer Sallison's murder as the reason they stay together. Spousal support can keep them from testifying against each other. Katherine doesn't care. She just wants Him out her life. They bicker back and forth. Shot after shot. Katherine takes this opportunity to find out about Wyatt. Jim bargains for a room with Wyatt address. Since he doesn't give her the address; Katherine tells Broderick to call Security. She kicked Jim out the hotel. Oscar is still trying to gain access and control of Wyatt's money. As he watches a video, he sees Keita (Quincy's sister) using Wyatt's ATM card. Too bad for Keita, she gets arrested.
Back at Wyatt's place, Wyatt opens up to Anna. He tells Anna about the preach he saw in the park. He tells her about the preachers touching him when he was younger. Seeing the priest in the park, trigger feelings for Wyatt. He wants to use at this moment. He probably thinks drugs numb his pain. Anna gets more emotional than she should. She opens up to Wyatt about being molested. It seems like Wyatt and Anna have a lot in common. Emotions are heavy. Desires are high. The addiction has craved. All these feelings, Wyatt tried to kiss Anna. Anna tried to resist the sexual chemistry between her and Wyatt. In the end, temptation wins. Anna and Wyatt have sex.
David takes Erica to this beautiful home. Veronica set her and David home on fire a few episodes ago. David brought the house for them. Being that so much happen between David and Veronica, the house has been home. The house has been empty, but not for long. David asked Erica to move into the house with him. He then gives Erica his credit card to purchase a new wardrobe. Wow!!! Is David falling in love with Erica? Does Erica still see David as a mark? It would be helpful to see Erica in love with David. Just as David was about to show Erica the house, Jim shows up. Jim needs my money. He turns to David for help. Jim and David's plate seems to get full by the second. Katherine and Veronica have genuinely boiled the pot for Jim and David. Jim tries to get David to introduce him to Erica, but David said not right now. Mama Rose is still not talking to them. They need her on their side. They have to find a way to get to her. David comes up with a plan to use Benny. Will Benny friendship with Mitch become a pawn for David? I mean Benny did sleep with his wife. Jim should be glad he has a friend in David. Jim sometimes take advantage of David. The good guy David is, he always is there for Jim. He gave Jim money and agreed to get him a hotel room.
Finally what we all were waiting for. Did Veronica and Melissa survive the car accident? For now, both of them are still alive. Melissa got out of the car. Too bad Veronica is stuck. Flames are flaring from the vehicle. Will the car blow up? Veronica is asking for help from Melissa. Veronica has mistreated Melissa. Does she think Melissa is going to help her? I do not believe so. Melissa set there happy. She will be more pleased if the car blows up. But, with Veronica still in the car.
This episode didn't have me anxious for the next episode, but it still was a good episode. I am pretty sure this season going to turn up the drama with each episode. We just have to be patient. Stay tuned in.
