#TheWalkingDead Season 7 Episode 11 "Hostiles And Calamities" Recap

 Sunday, February 26th, 2017

Sunday night's episode of The Walking Dead was different. No, it wasn't unexpected, but just different. We saw who we thought was a trusted ally trade sides, we saw one of Negan's own betray him and another all mixed up with some bomb-tactic fun.

Episode 11 opened with the Saviors discovering Fat Joey dead, beaten to death by a pipe. When Dwight saw, he immediately went to Daryl's cell. Well, it was empty. He was enraged. Then, he went to his room and found it in shambles.

When Eugene arrived at The Sanctuary, Negan was happy. The Savior that led him around throughout the episode was Laura, a tattooed, Negan-trusted badass that almost gave 'Haircut' a beat down when he was overlooking her and Spencer's correspondence at Alexandria. He was freaking out but the Saviors around him were all happy. Laura brought Eugene down to the dungeons where the cells were. He was begging her not to but she actually brought him to the room that was promised to Daryl. He found the library within the room an selected a book. She told him there was more to come in the main library. Then, Laura asked what he wanted to eat. He first selected lobster but was denied so he settled for some pasta and orangy sauce. While she went, he explored the room. Fresh produce, eggs and water with condiments was inside. Then, he found the juke box that had Easy Street. ( No, Eugene!)

All while this went on, Dwight found a note in his room. The note that told Daryl to 'Go Now'.  He was just staring at it when a knock sounded. He stuck the note in his pocket and answered the door. A handful of Saviors began to beat Dwight down while Negan watched from the doorway.

Coming back from the commercial break, we saw Dwight inside of a cell. He was sleeping until Negan came and banged on the door. Negan told him that when he returned, not only had Daryl gone but so did one of the wives; Sherry. He asked Dwighty-boy if he knew anything about that. Dwight said he didn't. Negan said he found it too coincidental that just hours previous Daryl had escaped. He asked Dwight if he was changing sides. Dwight told him that 'He Is Negan' just like the others did, and he opened the door. Negan told Dwight that Daryl was different than him and that there were two likely scenarios that were going to happen; Daryl was either running home or on his way back to kill him and Dwight. Either way, they'd find him. He pits Dwight in charge of finding Sherry. Then, doctor Carson sewed him up. He told Dwight that he thought it was Sherry because she hated seeing Daryl the way he was and that she was too weak. After that, Dwight goes to his room and gets ready to head out. He pulls Sherry's cigarette stash.

Laura showed 'haircut' around the Sanctuary. He witnessed someone steal something but didn't say anything. Laura told him that he was one of "them" and not a worker, meaning he didn't work for points for his meals, supplies, etc. So he's free to do, say and take what he wants when he wants. She took him to the back where the walker fence was where Negan and a handful of others were waiting.

Immediately, Negan begins to harass Dr. Smarty Pants and causes him to spill everything of importance; his multitude of degrees, his government projects before the apocalypse, where he began then things hit the fan, everything. Negan wanted Eugene to tell him how they could get the walkers to stay without collapsing and turning into piles of mush. He tells him that they already have the necessary supplies to do this: liquid metal. They needed to melt it and pour it on them, and it would give two advantages; securing them and defense for them. Negan is pleased. So, for thanks, he grants him a night with a few of his wives. But, no sex. Negan doesn't stand for cheating. A night with good eats, company and lovely smelling ladies. Eugene agrees to his "New Bestest Friend" and thanks him for the gratitude.

Video games going, Tonya and Frankie ate some popcorn while Amber got smashed on the wine. Frankie asked if Eugene wanted a massage but he declined, saying he knew they were there because Negan said they had to. But Tonya tells him that she's up to having an intelligent conversation like the 'Human Geno Project'. Then, one topic led to another and they talked him into making a bomb. He made it along with a foam-like snake. Both successful. The women were happy.

Dwight rode out to his and Sherry's old house. He found a note on a bottle in the sink that's her writing. It matches the "Go" on the note that was left for Daryl. As he's doing this, he's reading Sherry's letter she left but it's in her voice. He looks around, finds the letter and her wedding rings. After he reads it, he rummages through the house. Then, he left some pretzels and beer for her. He heads back.

In the next scene, Eugene was disturbed by Frankie and Tonya. They came to him for help. Amber wants to die, she can't handle being Negan's wife anymore. She wants to go in her sleep and they know he can make something for her. They talk him into it. Eugene visited the common worker area and was in line waiting when he decided to walk up and just ask. He was shot down but he decided to try out his new found power; being a Savior. He got her worker number, 16,  and told her that she is to report to him and he reports to Negan directly. She apologizes all over herself then give him the cold capsules he asked for. After he signed, he took a bunch of other random things then takes the other cold capsules and leaves. He goes back to his room and gets to work.

When Dwight returns, he goes to see Doctor Carson.  He tells Carson that he killed Sherry after he found her because she walked into a nest of dead ones. The doc tells him that he knows that couldn't have been easy so he should take some time off. Dwight remains quiet and goes go smoke.

Eugene bared witness to The Iron.  Dwight prepped the iron in the fire as Negan makes his entrance. The doctor is there, all the wives are there, everyone is there. Negan then proceeded to beat on the doctor with Lucille. He told everyone that he found a note in his office that proved he was the one who held Sherry's secret. Dwight brought Negan the iron and he put it to the side of his face. Negan said that if the Doctor confessed, he wouldn't burn his face. He confessed. Then, Negan threw him in the fire. Everyone cringed, two of Negan's wives exited and the others stared fearfully. Negan hugged Dwight but Dwight was cold to him. Negan smiled and left.

After the show, Frankie and Tonya come to Eugene and ask if the pills are done. Yes, they're ready, but he isn't giving them up. He realized that the pills are for Negan and they planned on killing him. Frankie flipped the script and attempted to blackmail Eugene, but that didn't work. He told them the difference between him and them; they're replaceable, and he is not. Angry, they storm out.

In the next to last scene, Negan pays Eugene a visit. (Que the freaky music) He was munching on a pickle when he knocked. I, along with many others, thought Eugene was about to get beat up considering the knock was the same one from Dwight's beating. Anyway, Negan said that his wives had nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Smarty Pants. Negan made it painfully clear that this offer he has made him (Eugene) only comes once and he does not

take it lightly. He told Eugene that he doesn't have to be scared. Then, Negan told him he needed to answer one question correctly. And before Negan could even get it out, Eugene said "I'm Negan. I'm utterly, completely, stone cold Negan. I was Negan before; I just had to know for sure. I'm Negan."

In the final scene of the episode, we saw a more relaxed, fitting in Eugene. He was giving instructions to the walker wall workers on how to pour the metal. Then, Dwight appeared. A friendship was formed and a trusted ally became a traitor.
