~~~First off, I would like to give my utmost respect, admiration, and thanks to actor Andrew Lincoln who plays the one and only Rick Grimes. You, sir, have brought that character genuinely alive, feeling every little thing and that is something amazing within itself. You have given you time, your blood, sweat and tears, your energy and your years dedicated to our beloved show for damn near a decade and we have been blessed to have watched it year after year. Your work has been incredible, and you will be remembered forever as the king of the undead screen. I, on behalf of every single Deader out there, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You as well as your character will be greatly missed by millions~~~
Oh my goodness! It has finally come! Although the worst news possible was confirmed yesterday, that being that our beloved Andrew Lincoln AKA Rick Grimes will be no more, the season 9 trailer dropped yesterday and fans have been going CRAZY! Everyone, including myself, has watched and rewatched countless times dissecting and using our microscopic tools to decipher every little bit. But, in retrospect, the 5 minute and 36-second trailer included a mix of Comic dust in with a whole crapload of new stuff, a baby Hershall and a Whisperer horde that will all unfold starting the 7th of October. Let's break that down, shall we?
In the opening 20 seconds, we saw Rick going down into Negan's basement cell. He grabs a chair and tells the villain that it's been a while since they had one of their talks. In the next few scenes, it shows a flourishing Hilltop and a baby Hershal. It then shows Rick stepping outside while Judith is running around outside, him, Michonne and Daryl arriving at the Hilltop and Michonne and Judith in a garden then Rick and Michonne killing walkers in the city while Rick speaks over, saying; "It wasn't that long ago that we were fighting just to stay alive. But, it's not like that anymore. We build things; we're growing, still ready to deal with the world on its own terms."
The next scene shows Daryl leading a group collecting lumber and Rick telling someone in the Sanctuary, "We're all going to pitch in and make sure the Sanctuary has what it needs so Y'all can get back on your feet." Then, it shows a group of Rick's people gathering a stagecoach from the capitol building. Rick says "No matter what happens, it's human nature to come together." Rick greets Anne aka Jadis and Tara in this makeshift camp. Negan tells Rick that he paints a real pretty picture then asks when he's going to be able to see it himself. Rick asks if Negan ever gets tired of acting like he's in charge and Negan asks him if Rick does.
In the next set of scenes, Maggie confronts Rick about the leadership. She admits that she wasn't one to follow at the time. She tells him that that chances now. It shows her fighting a pack of walkers then her and Daryl gather something in gas canisters. Then it shows Rick emerging from his tent at the makeshift campsite where Carol and Ezekiel are seen getting comfy in front of a fire. Negan is heard telling Rick; "You think you got all this on lock." Michonne tells Maggie that she needs to consider making rules between the communities, an agreement on how to treat everyone and what happens when you don't abide. As Michonne finishes her statement, Daryl is seen beating the everloving God out of some guy who was harassing Carol while Arat, Tara, Rick, and Sydney were busying themselves around the camp.
In the next couple of scenes, Daryl speaks over saying, "That small group in the beginning? We could do anything. That was right. This doesn't feel right, man." while it shows Michonne and Rick arrive at the Hilltop on horseback, Maggie looking worried then picking up a pry bar, Daryl spiking a walker in the head, logs plowing down walkers, then a group of people along with Rick killing off a pack of walkers. Rick tells Daryl, "It's on is, we'll figure it out how to make it work." Henry is seen flipping someone as a brawl ensues between a group and Daryl and Aaron. Michonne tells Rick, "We don't know if they are ever going to forgive each other, Rick." As she and Rick and a few others walk into the former work station with a phrase spray-painted on the wall saying "Saviors Save Us. We Are All Still Negan." Carol stares down a group of survivors, gun drawn. She tells Rick that she wanted to end it before it began. Negan then tells Rick, "When it finally goes to shit, and it will, you make sure, and you come back and tell me about that day, too." While he says that, a massive horde is seen, Gabriel investigates someone's tent with a very intricately drawn drawing, what looks like a staggering and heavily bleeding Rick walking, Daryl sharpening a big knife and Maggie stabbing something with the pry bar.
In the next few scenes, Rick's group investigating a downed bridge with a fast-paced, moving river. Anne takes a bucket off a walkers head; Enid doesn't look very happy, assembly Rick and Co explore a building, people put a walker upon a scarecrow holder, what appears to be Eugene facing off against Daryl with a group of people. Maggie and Jesus are walking through Hilltop, Daryl shooting a walker in the capitol building, Michonne reading what looks like Georgie's book than looking at her katana. Rick and presumably Michonne with Judith birdwatching, Carol resting her head on Daryl's shoulder, Rick looking away as a group led by Daryl run towards him, a group led by Carol and what looks like a pregnant Rosita? A helicopter is hovering just behind Anne and Rick and Daryl on a motorcycle.
In the second to the last set of scenes, Rick speaks over, saying "It's about all of us, together." A group is gathered inside of Hilltop at night, a man in makeshift handcuffs. Roots lead an attack on a group that looked to be attacking them, Anne finds a "final warning" sign inside of The Junkyard, Carol is seen being held at knifepoint. Daryl throws down his bike in a spat with Rick, walkers climb up a hill quickly, Daryl starts to kill walkers two at a time, Jadis takes aim, Rick nearly gets but by a walker, Maggie and Gregory fight, and Michonne does down walkers with her sword. Then, it shows Daryl asking Rick if they are on the same side and Rick tells him, "Well, you tell me." Then Michonne raises what looks like Lucille! The pace suddenly shifts momentarily showing Father Gabriel interviewing a former music teacher, a former truck stop waitress and a "modest" journalist.
In the final scene of the clip, it shows two frantic people sliding down an embankment and covering themselves in the mud. As walkers near, among the walker, groans you can hear "Where...are...they...?" Then, the trailer ends!
So many damn questions!!! I just can't contain my excitement! October 7th cannot get here fast enough. I am so excited for the new season. I will be posting a Season 9 Theory post within the next few days so make sure and check in to read it when it's out!
As always guys, thanks for reading and check back periodically. Be safe out there.
