A new development has me and many other fans excited for Season 2 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. On top of the already announced mystery character, portrayed by Patrick J. Adams, a male and female character will join the cast in season two as members of the team. To start things off, this has been said about the male character in regards to what the show runners are looking for, “A male in his late-20s to mid-30s is being sought to play a guy who grew up in the shadow of his World War II hero grandfather and has used a Han Solo-like facade to conceal his insecurity- until, that is, the development of super powers enables him to live up to his family legacy.” To me personally, this sounds an awful lot like Justice League member Hank Heywood III, aka Steel. This character has had several allies in the past, like Steel, Captain Steel, Commander Steel, and Citizen Steel. The first Hank Haywood was a soldier during WW2, who was crippled and used cybernetics to to recover and become a super hero. His grandson Hank III, would recover from injuries he sustained to a similar end. He gained enhanced strength, stamina, senses, and speed. In DC’s New 52 continuity, on top of his existing enhancements, Hank was also given Mechanokinesis (the ability to control some machines with one’s mind). In any event, the description of the male character could mean that we will be seeing Hank Haywood join the Arrowverse sooner rather than later.
In regards to the female character, this statement was released, “Also being cast for Legends Season 2 is the female member of a paramilitary team living in the 1940’s. An African-American, she is scrutinized in her time for both her gender and race and thus has worked twice as hard to be a perfect soldier. That said, she blames herself for- and aims to avenge- the death of a team member for whom she had repressed feelings." This character is more of mystery to me. I do have my theories though. One of these is that this mystery woman could be a reimagining of Elizabeth Lawrence-Chambers, aka Liberty Belle. This one is not as solid as the first, but the time period and her involvement with the military line up. The Arrowverse writers are no strangers to re working a character’s origin, race, gender, etc, to make the character their own. We see this in the re-worked origins and characteristics of the Arrow villains Merlyn, Komodo, Vertigo, and Deathstroke, as well as the Flash’s Zoom. I want to note that these are just my theories based on my knowledge. They may be accurate or dead wrong. Though I believe that there is ample evidence to support these, especially Steel. What do you think?
